For the last couple months the team behind InspectorV has been busy with a project called If You Are Not Here Where Are You? by Maartje Nevejan. This project is about the experience that children have when they suffer from absence epilepsy.
With the IYANTWAY project we try to help them create a language, so they can more easily be understood and speak about what they see.
Children who suffer from this form of epilepsy don’t fall or have spasms like the more commonly known epilepsy, they just stare and are ‘not here’ for a couple seconds. During an attack it’s possible for them to experience another world where strange things happen. Although only in their head, to them this world is very real.
With the IYANTWAY project we try to help them create a language, so they can more easily be understood and speak about what they see. Last week the project was presented at Cinekid Festival, it was a big success. Children could through VR devices end up in the world of the participants in our project. The reactions varied from awesome to a little scary. If you want to experience this for yourself, this week friday the 3th of November our project will also be presented at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
